Baosteel elects GEORG for the world’s most modern CRM roll shop
Investment into the Future
12 months ago Baowu Steel Group Corp. Ltd. (former Baosteel) and Shanghai Court Roll Surface Treatment Co., Ltd. entrusted the high-tech machine builder GEORG with the engineering and realization of five roll grinding machines of the GEORG ultragrind type. Background was the planned plant expansion of the Zhanjiang site in Guangdong province with the target to build the world’s most modern CRM roll shop.
Technically and economically superior
For Baowu Steel and Shanghai Court the decisive criteria for placing the future oriented order with GEORG was the focus on application of latest state-of-the-art technologies, e.g. the GEORG smart control. Based on the world’s most advanced machine control system SINUMERIC ONE by Siemens we have integrated the digital twin into our roll grinding machines already. The interaction between the virtual and the real machine offers our customers best conditions for enormous production increases when applying our grinding machines. As a result GEORG could make a great step ahead of its competition in regards to automation, digitalization, verification and economy wise.
Ready to act in spite of Covid-19 pandemic
GEORG is proud that in spite of all adverse circumstances during the worldwide pandemic of Covid-19 all dates and dead-lines could be kept. The originally planned personal presence of the customer during pre-acceptance at our Kreuztal works was not possible due to travel restrictions. However, this was not an obstacle for GEORG to carry out the tests together with the customer in a digital way. All main machine functions were demonstrated and verified live.
During this event all responsible project team members at Zhanjiang and Shanghai could virtually convince themselves about the GEORG quality. At present all five machines are on their way to the customer at Zhanjiang.
Invest now to be ready for the recovery
Covid-19 pandemic has hit many companies severely and has caused many restrictions and uncertainties. Anyhow the world goes on turning and we all have to take care respectfully of the health of our employees but also of the success or fail of our companies. At present nobody can tell when the right vaccine against Covid-19 will be available. However, one thing is for sure: after a long time of infringement of investments there will be a booming upswing ahead of us. It is our common responsibility to be prepared for this and to set the switches for a successful future.

IGUS trade press day at GEORG
To ensure the high quality of our machines, we manufacture in our in-house mechanical production facilities in Kreuztal, Germany, and Roanoke, USA.
We apply the same high-quality standards to our suppliers — for example, to the energy chains from igus GmbH. Last week, igus visited our headquarters in Kreuztal as part of a trade press workshop attended by many journalists. The industry experts had the opportunity to gain an in-depth impression of our coil processing lines, roll grinding machines, and lean production. ATLAS TRAFO is scaling up and GEORG is part of it
To cut transformer cores in their new and impressive facility in Kemalpaşa near Izmir, Türkiye, ATLAS TRAFO has chosen our proven GEORG precisioncut TBA400 ecoline. Thanks to its compact design and intuitive operation, our new customer will be able to set up the machine independently after a two-week training session at our headquarter in Kreuztal.

GEORG ultragrind SG 2 for Marcegaglia
Marcagaglia Ravenna S.p.a. has purchased for its cold rolling mill a roll grinder type GEORG ultragrind SG 2 in foundation free GEORG ultrablock version. Since 2017, when the first ultrablock machine was sold, a total of around 10 machines of this design have been sold.
